The dazzling fiddle and guitar virtuosity of Liz Carroll and John Doyle sets the Freight stage alight in an exciting evening of "new traditionalist" Irish music.
One of the masters of traditional Irish music living in America today, Chicago-born Liz has been amazing audiences with her fiddle ever since she won the Senior All-Ireland Championship at the age of 18. Known for her fiery performances full of inventiveness and intense emotion, Liz has released several albums, including 2000's acclaimed Lost in the Loop and her recent Lake Effect(Green Linnett). Awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts in 1994 for her great influence on Irish music in America, Liz has contributed many self-penned tunes to the repertoire of Celtic performers throughout the world.
One of the most exciting guitarists in Irish traditional music today, Dublin native John Doyle made a name for himself with his striking propulsive style in both the innovative groups he helped found, The Chanting House and Solas. (He's a fine singer, too!) John comes from an extended family of musicians and singers, and he has lovingly combined many of their influences into his deeply traditional yet modern style. He played on both of Liz's most recent albums, and his own Evening Comes Early (Shanachie) was released last year. Liz and John are close to releasing a new album, but don't pass up the chance to see this electrfying duo live!
