They brought the house down at their Freight debut last February as past of Dr. K's Homwegrown Roots Revue; now they're back to headline an evening of fabulous music! Called "One of the brightest new lights illuminating San Francisco's bluegrass music" by CBA's Bluegrass Breakdown, 49 Special's repertoire of great original songs reveals influences from country and blues, as well as from traditional and progressive bluegrass.

Fiddler Alisa Rose, bassist Dan Booth, banjo player Jim Chayka, and guitarist Tyson Alteri are a quartet of young, energetic, and remarkably talented musicians who play their bluegrass with flawless skill and a freshness that is gaining attention in the Bay Area and beyond, and won them top honors at the prestigious Rockygrass Band Competition in 2009. All the basic ingredients of good bluegrass are there—driving rhythm, soaring fiddling, hot picking, sweet, tight harmonies, and nimble choreography around the single mic. But what really wins hearts is the passion and excitement this quartet expresses through their music.
