Blues is the basis for nearly all great American musical styles. From Bluegrass to folk, old time to country, ragtime to jazz, all were born out of the Blues. No matter where your musical passion lies, nothing will deepen and enhance your playing like a bit of the Blues! We will look at some of the history of Blues and explore its origins, but mostly we will play.

*The Acoustic Blues Ensemble is open to players of all instruments and levels.

John R. Burr is that rare pianist who combines jazz technique with a genuine love for folk music. His musical diversity has enabled him to tour and record with a variety of artists, including Maria Muldaur, the Alison Brown Quartet, Paul McCandless, Kenny Rankin, Robben Ford, and Michael Manring. His playing is as likely to be inspired by James Taylor or Doctor John as by Oscar Peterson or the Yellowjackets, although it is his love of folk music that has influenced him most.
