Scions of Ireland's famous singing Black family (which also includes brother Martin and sisters Frances and Mary), Shay and Michael salute the wearing of the green with their strong voices, solo or in beautiful tight-knit harmony, adroitly accompanying themselves on various instruments, with Bryan Seet (piano), Myra Joy (cello), and Bobbi Nikles (fiddle) further enriching the group's multifaceted sound, while the Celtic Dance Ensemble kicks up their heels. And who knows who else may show up? Whether performing haunting ballads, sea chanties, lively dance tunes, or sing-along favorites like "Down Our Street" and "The Great Storm is Over," the brothers delight in sharing the music drawn from their family's rich heritage. The Black Family recently released an album of traditional and contemporary songs, Our Time Together and Michael recently recorded a solo CD on the Compass label. Opening for the Black Brothers is Irish mandolin/mandola player and vocalist Marla Fibish. Marla 's driving, rhythmic playing and lyrical style have been a part of the San Francisco Irish music scene for the past 20 years.
