Bluegrass (& Beyond) Repertoire Class w/ Ran Bush
Tuesdays, 8:15 - 9:45 pm (starts 4/27) In this class you will have the opportunity to learn classic American folk and bluegrass songs, sing harmony or melody, and play chords or even play a solo in a fun, educational musical environment. The instructor will propose 2-3 songs as examples, and the attendees can propose song choices of their own at the first class session. If you've ever wanted to sing three-part harmony on "Man of Constant Sorrow", this may be your chance! Songs from the Carter Family, Old Crow Medicine Show, Gram Parsons, Allison Krauss, and many others could be selected for the group to learn together. Open to all singers, and players of acoustic musical instruments. There will be an optional stage performance opportunity at the end of the session at a Freight Open House. *Students should be able to play basic chords on their acoustic stringed instrument smoothly, at 60-100 beats per minute. Attendees are encouraged to bring tape recorders, songbooks, and chord charts. Guitar and banjo players should have a capo handy, and every player should bring a tuner or tuning fork. Singers should know what key they sing in, or bring chord charts for other players to use if possible. Ran Bush has played music professionally in the Monterey Bay area and San Francisco Bay area for over thirty years. He also taught software classes at local community colleges for fifteen years. These experiences are now combined, helping others to listen, learn, and sing and play music in a fun, supportive environment. You can register for classes and workshops online with a credit card (just click on the "register online" link) or through the Freight box office in person with cash, check, or credit card.
