Charlie Hunter Trio
pre-show Q&A at 7:10 pmThursday, May 13, 8:00 pm (doors open at 7:00 pm) jaw dropping rock/jazz fusion guitarist $24.50 advance / $25.50 at door Purchase tickets online May 13 8:00 pm
With a career spanning 16 years and almost 20 albums, Charlie has been upsetting notions of how the guitar should be played ever since he appeared on the Bay Area scene in the 1990s (he played seven-string guitar and organ in Michael Franti's political rap group, The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy). With custom-made seven and eight-string guitars, Charlie continues to boggle minds by playing heady lead guitar, swinging rhythm fills, and unutterably funky bass lines simultaneously, creating music that is both supremely danceable and satisfyingly challenging. Charlie starts the evening with a Q&A session, a continuation of the Freight's Chamber Folk Series, providing audience members the opportunity to ask questions about the music he'll present, its history, and his creative process.
