Tenor saxophonist Jessica Jones anchors two intimate duet sets: the first with pianist Connie Crothers and the second with pianist/saxophonist Peter Apfelbaum. Bay Area natives now ensconced in Brooklyn's creative music scene, the three are certified originals performing their own compositions as well as imaginative interpretations of jazz standards.
Jessica and her huband Tony Jones have collaborated for the last 20 years in her own quartet. In addition, Jessica has worked with Joseph Jarman, Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, and a variety of Haitian, Caribbean and African bands.
Signal to Noise magazine calls Connie "a stunning pianist", noting her uncompromising sponta- neous improvisation, originality, virtuosity, and a wide range of expression. The centennial issue of Cadence Magazine included, Connie in it's list of the most important and influential musicians in the last twenty-five years of the 20th century.
Peter's musical collaborations cut across a wide swath-he is leader of the 17-piece band Hieroglyphics Ensemble, toured with both Don Cherry and the Trey Anastasio Band, composed works for the Kronos Quartet, Harry Belafonte, and Kamikaze Ground Crew, and has worked with Cecil Taylor, Nana Vasconcelos, Levon Helm, Joseph Jarman, Bill Laswell, and others.
