Jug Blowing & Percussion Playing Techniques in Americana Roots Music w/ Pete Devine

Saturday, May 1, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Register online

This hands-on workshop will teach you the ins and outs of how to blow the jug, as well as relaying techniques on how to apply the washboard and other percussive instruments to old time blues and string band music.

*This class is open to all ages and levels of playing experience. If you have a jug and/or washboard (as well as sticks or brushes to play it with) please bring them along!

Pete Devine has been playing drums and percussion since he was 6 years old. He picked up the jug as a teenager, after falling in love with the music of the Memphis Jug Band, Clifford Hayes' Louisville Jug Band, and old time blues. Pete's own band--Devine's Jug Band--has headlined the Louisville, Ky National Jug Band Jubilee and the SF Jug Band Festival, and has also performed at such venues as the Great American Music Hall and the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. Pete has also recently recorded and performed with the Mother of Jug Band Music, Maria Muldaur. He also plays drums for the
group Gaucho, which was named SF's Best Jazz Band in the 2009 SF Weekly Music Awards Readers' Poll.

Pete is organizing the 1st Annual West Coast Jug Band Jubilee to be held this coming August at the Freight & Salvage!
