Eli Smith and Walker Shepard of The Dust Busters will offer a workshop on the diversity of styles in old-time guitar playing. This includes how to play old-time back up guitar as well as melodies and ragtime finger picking. The workshop will cover the styles of the great Anglo and African-American players recorded in the early 20th century on 78 rpm records as well as by Lomax and the Library of Congress.

Brooklyn-based old time string band The Dust Busters met playing in a larger band with folk legends John Cohen of the New Lost City Ramblers and Peter Stampfel of The Holy Modal Rounders. The band integrates a wide range of old-time, ballads, fiddle tunes and jug-band blues into each performance, conjuring that freewheelin' high-energy reminiscent of early string bands such as The Skillet Lickers, Dykes Magic City Trio, The Mississippi Sheiks, and J.E. Mainer's Mountaineers, among many greats. The Dust Busters are influenced and inspired by the direct fusion of Scots-Irish and African music that took place in Appalachia, the Western states and Deep South, from the earliest colonial times through the Second World War. Weaving these into a distinct sound with authenticity and creativity, The Dust Busters make it thoroughly contemporary, meaningful, raw...and foremost, fun.
