The legendary co-founder of The Doors, much-emulated keyboard player Ray Manzarek, joins forces with critically acclaimed slide/blues guitarist Roy Rogers for a truly captivating show. Spotlighting numbers from their new duo CD, Ballads Before the Rain, Ray and Roy present amazing new instrumental takes on Doors classics like "The Crystal Ship" and "Riders On The Storm," plus selections of blues, jazz, and classical music that showcase the prodigious talents of these two composer/performers. Chicago-born Ray met Jim Morrison while studying in the UCLA Department of Cinematography in the early 1960's. The controversial, highly influential band they formed quickly rose to fame, though it was only for a short span of time ending with Jim's death in 1971. (Despite a career that barely totalled eight years, The Doors still have an enormous fanbase; according to the RIAA, they have sold over 32.5 million albums in the U.S. alone.) In addition to Jim's wild, poetic lyrics and chaotic stage persona, The Doors' sound was defined by Ray's signature keyboard playing, on a Vox Continental organ. Ray has remained highly active in the music scene since The Doors disbanded, playing in the group Nite City and collaborating on projects with everyone from Philip Glass to Iggy Pop to poet Michael McClure.

Sonoma County's own bottleneck slide guitar maestro, Roy is a premier artist, with two Grammy nominations and a host of amazing collaborations to his name. Famed among Freightgoers for his great shows with the late harmonica player Norton Buffalo, Roy is widely recognized as one of the finest practitioners and innovators of modern slide guitar, linking far-flung genres of American roots music, constantly stretching the boundaries of his instrument in his own unique way.
