Guitar is a central part of American music styles such as blues, folk, jazz, country, rhythm and blues, and rock n’ roll, as well as music from around the world. The most popular way to play a song on the guitar is to strum through the chords, and hundreds of students have learned these fundamental skills in this class. Each session, we play different songs. We also play the 12-Bar Blues, and the scale that goes with it. There is an introduction to reading music at a very easy level.
Required for the class: a guitar, an electronic tuner, a pick, Alfred's Basic Guitar Method 1. Items are available at Starving Musician Berkeley.
