Intermediate/Advanced Fiddling
Fiddlers of the Bay, come one, come all! Even for curious beginners, this may be an interesting workshop. We'll dig into a couple tunes, learned by ear (as in most fiddling traditions), and we'll explore bowing styles, rhythms, variations, and improvisation. Special emphasis will be given to Scottish & Irish ornamentation and stylings. If time and interest allows, we'll touch on jazz techniques as well. Finally, we'll discuss how you can take your playing to the next level and enjoy making music at the same time.

Kittel is an award-winning fiddler, violinist and composer known as a master in Celtic, classical, jazz and bluegrass traditions. He has performed around the world at venues almost as diverse as his skills from Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to Bonnaroo and the Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland. He was a member of the Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet for five years and has worked with such artists as Mark O’Connor, Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile, Paquito D’Rivera, and My Morning Jacket.
