The Supportive Percussionist
This intermediate class is designed for percussionists who have performance experience or want to become better performers. We will delve into performance and study techniques for stage and studio work. We will explore the role of percussion instruments across many different musical styles, including: Latin, Funk/Soul, Rock/Folk, Reggae and others. We will go in-depth, breaking down the pros and cons of different approaches and how to identify dynamic sensitivities that build and improve a piece of music. Through listening and analysis of original and well-known songs, we will learn techniques for quick part/pattern implementation that will unlock the rhythmic potential in each piece. We will have fun soloing, while learning how to personalize our approach appropriately within the needs of a song. A portion of each class will be dedicated to warming-up and proper technique.

For the final class, students will be invited to demonstrate their new skills playing alongside professional musicians. Family and friends are welcome to attend the showcase.

NOTE: Students are required to bring their own instrument(s). This class is open to all forms of hand percussion and I will do my best to provide an overview for each instrument that pertains to the weekly lesson. Students should bring note taking/audio recording tools to each class.
