San Francisco Piper's Club
San Francisco Piper's Club
The San Francisco Pipers' Club was founded in 1979 to provide a supportive environment for people learning the uilleann pipes in the vicinity of the San Francisco Bay Area. The club meets approximately once a month and offers free piping, reed making and pipe maintenance lessons to members. Every two years, the club hosts the West Coast Piping Tionól, a weekend-long festival of piping. The club also organizes other events, such as parties and picnics, and hosts visiting pipers.
Todd Denman
Todd Denman
From theatres to pub sessions and studio recordings, Todd Denman has enjoyed playing the uilleann pipes near and far. Recipient of an NEA award to study on the pipes, he has also created several acclaimed recordings and collaborations.
Kara Doyle
Kara Doyle
Kara Doyle was born in Wisconsin, and spent her youth in California. Moving to the Northeast for graduate school brought her into regular contact with traditional Irish music, and she began to play whistle in 1995. She contracted a severe case of uilleann piping fever in the late nineties, and began piping in 2001. Kara has been very strongly influenced in tone, repertoire, and pedagogy by the teaching of Benedict Koehler and Brian McNamara, and admires both the tightness of Tommy Reck and the lyrical musicality of Liam O’Flynn and Mick O’Brien. She has been privileged to teach piping at both the Northeast Tionól and the South East Tionól. She lives and plays in Schenectady, New York.
Autumn Rhodes
Autumn Rhodes
Autumn Rhodes was raised in a household full of Irish music. At the age of 12, while living in rural Indiana, she was given a tin whistle for a birthday present and took to it right away. She hasn’t looked back - she started performing professionally the next year and hasn’t stopped since. Shortly after, she progressed to the flute and began quickly claiming 1st place titles in fleadhs and competitions across the country. Since then, concertina has become her instrument of choice, and she has also taken up the uilleann pipes to great acclaim.

Throughout the years she’s toured throughout the United States with bands such as Soltré, Kennedy’s Kitchen, and The Wrenboys; has played for various Irish dance groups including Siamsa, Celtic Fire, and Kaleidoscope, and has partnered up with Julie Henigan, Maldon Meehan, Susan Mashiyama, and uilleann piper Tim Hill.

Shawn Folsom
Shawn Folsom
Shawn Folsom's love of traditional folk music led him to the Scottish bagpipes in 1969 and to England, Scotland and Ireland. Later on he discovered the Northumbrian and Irish bagpipes, in 1973. Since then he has collected more than 30 bagpipes (all of which he plays) from Europe and the Middle East. In addition, he performs music on the hurdy-gurdy, flutes, reed pipes, Asian harmonica (Chinese sheng), and a host of other rich and varied instruments also in his extensive collection. To foster the understanding and similarities of peoples of the world, as well as to pass to others his love of music in all its rich and varied forms, he performs for schools, festivals and at corporate meetings; throughout the US, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.
